The idea of The Steak Lad came to me after years of attempting to master the art of cooking Steak, but was motivated by an extremely unhealthy relationship with food.

In 2016, I took a year off University studies (at the time I was studying to be a paramedic) to pursue my interest in Boxing. Growing up, I always had an interest in sport and ended up having my first amateur fight within a year since putting on my first pair of boxing gloves.

As a consequence of this pursuit, I established what in reflection (although undiagnosed) was likely an eating disorder due to the significant weight cuts and major rebounds I was having following my fights. This resulted in a fear of eating an excessive amount of food and is something (although not nearly as bad) that I still struggle with today.

It took a nine-month exchange to San Diego in 2018 and a dramatic weight cut (approximately 15kg in 3 months) following my return to realise the negative impact that a low-calorie diet (coupled with incredibly large cheat meals) was having on me.

The constant lack of energy forced to me to look for another way which is when I stumbled on Paul Saladino’s book – The Carnivore Code. Little did I know at the time that this was how “The Steak Lad” would be born.

The above events served as motivation behind the creation of “The Steak Lad” in early 2023. Whilst my initial goal was to just share my passion for Steak with friends, it has quickly formed into something that I never thought possible.

As my love for meat has evolved, I have been exposed to an incredible amount of people with a similar passion and I cannot think of a better world than one where I can influence as many people as possible to feel the way I do about Steak.
